Biography

Jacob Sparks is a postdoctoral scholar at the Institute for Practical Ethics at the University of California, San Diego. He earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from Tufts University and a Ph.D. in applied philosophy from Bowling Green State University. His current work in ethics includes both metaethical questions about the possibility of ethical knowledge, and applied ethics questions about algorithmic decision making, the nature and value of privacy, the AI alignment problem, and the moral limits of markets.
